BN Beauties: Johanna Bayne

Johanna is a 29 year old, Florida native, currently living in Chicago, Illinois.  Growing up, her passion was swimming. She swam competititvely, both year round and on her high school’s varsity team. She also ran track and field for fun and further conditioning for swimming.  However, after high school, she lost all motivation to do any sort of healthy or physical activity.

The Turning Point

But things changed in 2009, when her best friend, Jess, was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.  It was devastating.  She made a promise to her that she would train and run in the National  Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer (Race with Donna) that year.  As Jess fought through surgeries and chemotherapy, Johanna chose her marathon training as a personal journey and challenge to share with her.  In February 2010, she ran 26.2 miles. Jess ran the last mile with her and presented her with her finisher’s medal.  This moment sparked Johanna’s fire to continue to get in shape.

Hello, Bikini!

Later that year, Johanna moved to Chicago, joined a gym, and began training. She learned the importance of not only eating healthy and working hard, but also emotional well being. She also met her friend, and fellow BN Beauty, Anjali Antani, and went with her to a few of her bikini competitions.  From watching Anjali’s passion and drive, Johanna was inspired to not only become a better athlete, but also a future competitor.  So she decided to train and diet for her first competition in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, for her bikini debut.  A year after beginning her training, Johanna competed in the Dexter Jackson Classic and placed 5th in Bikini Tall Class.  Since then, she has competed in two shows and is training for the Dexter Classic again.

Competing gives her a sense of accomplishment and also holds her accountable to the standard of physical health that she likes to maintain. Through this sport, she has also met so many amazing and inspriring people, many of which have found a special place in her heart.  This amazing support system continues to remind me that there really is no greater feeling than to BN Shape!

August 6, 2011, Dexter Jackson Classic, Jacksonville, Florida (5th place Bikini Tall Class)

November 5, 2011, Midwest Ironman Classic, Chicago, Illinois (4th place Bikini Tall Class)

March 1, 2012, The Arnold Amateur, Columbus, Ohio (competitor in Bikini Class C)
